"Is Chiropractic Safe?"
Doctors of chiropractic are well trained professionals who provide patients with safe, effective care for a variety of common conditions. Their extensive education has prepared them to identify patients who have special risk factors and to get those patients the most appropriate care, even if that requires referral to a medical specialist.

"What can I expect after my first adjustment?"
Everyone tends to react a little bit different to the first adjustment. Most tend to feel a little sore at first. This is a much different soreness than before, though. Since the nervous system is recalibrating, it will activate different muscle fibers in order to try and hold the adjustment and realign the spine on it’s own. These fibers can get sore, just like working out for the first time in a while.
Dr. Jess recommends to drink lots of water, maybe apply ice if necessary (not heat), and to relax for that first day after the adjustment. Dr. Jess will also most likely give you a call within the first few days to check in on you and see how you are doing.
"Why do children get adjusted?"
Simply put, because they have a nerve system too.
Birth is a beautiful and empowering event. However, it can sometimes end up being somewhat stressful for the mother as well as the newborn. Whether it is a home birth or hospital birth, Baby's head still spends a significant amount of time pressed up against the vaginal wall and pelvic bones. Baby may also have experienced more strain as they exit the birth canal, especially if extra force was utilized.
When Dr. Jess checks newborns, there is no cracking, no rotating, no quick movements. She uses as gentle of a pressure as you would use when pressing on your eyelid. She is also trained in Cranial-Sacral therapy, a technique that checks the natural rhythmic movement between the skull of the child and the sacrum. Alleviating any pressure or discomfort the child is feeling can have a multitude of effects on growth, feeding, elimination, demeanor, immune system, sleeping, colic, ear infections, torticollis, etc. The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association's webpage is a fantastic source for skeptical moms who want to see all the research there has been done not only on Chiropractic but also on Pediatric Chiropractic.
As a child gets older, it isn't uncommon for he or she to bump into this, smack that, fall off of this or run into that. Overall, children are very resilient, but the build-up of many of these small traumas can cause the body to compensate, even at such a young age. This is especially true for children active in sports. Again, pediatric adjustments are very gentle and they often end up loving going to the chiropractor.
With kids that seem to have some sort of Developmental Delay Syndrome, ADHD, Autism and/or trouble processing sensory input, Dr. Jess uses neuro-therapies, dietary and supplementation recommendations as well as chiropractic care as needed. The labels that have been put on these kids at such a young age, should not define them. Often times, the labels and symptoms are actually a window into how their brain is functioning and how Dr. Jess can help get it back on track.
"Do you take insurance?"
With the exception of Medicare, Ginkgo Chiropractic accepts all insurances; however Ginkgo Chiropractic is a non-preferred provider. This means your benefits are subject to your out-of-network level coverage. There is usually a phone number on the back of your insurance card just for patients to call and an insurance representative can let you know your out-of-network Chiropractic benefits. Many of our patients look into their coverage and get reimbursed quite well, it simply depends on your specific benefits. We are happy to provide you with a Superbill at the end of your visit to get directly reimbursed by your insurance provider. We will note that a large majority of our patients are cash-based and value our mode of healthcare enough to budget around it. We are more than happy to work with you on finding an affordable care plan that fits your lifestyle, health concerns and pocketbook.
Our office does not bill Medicare. We apologize for this inconvenience.
